I’m one of the lucky ones who has a jam-up, awesome Dad.
My Dad is everything a girl could need. Since birth, he’s been there. It’s never been a question for me. Even when he was physically not there, whether he was working long hours to support us or it was post-divorce when we lived with our mom, I never doubted his presence. He has always stood firm in his strong ethical and moral convictions and never compromised his integrity for anyone or anything. He has always been honest with me while always preserving my feelings. He has always kept in constant contact with me and never “disappeared”. I can probably count the times he hasn’t answered a call, and if he happened to be busy or away from his phone, he’s back in touch within minutes. He never misses a chance to tell me he loves me. He has never missed a chance to tell me how beautiful or smart I am. Long story short, I haven’t ever lacked in the Father arena. The only negative side about having such a great Dad, was the fear that Dads like that don’t exist anymore, or that my future children wouldn’t be as lucky. Boy, was I wrong. Let me tell you about the greatest Dad I know, next to my own. Tyler Crenshaw takes the role and owns it. Maybe this sounds like a huge humble brag, so if that kind of thing annoys you- you may want to skip this post.
What makes Tyler a Dad and not just a biological father?
The way he looks into Grayson’s eyes when he talks and truly listens to what he is saying.
His incredible patience that I wish I had just an ounce of. I have never seen him frazzled or short fused. I have never heard him raise his voice.
The way he cried when he saw Charlie’s face for the first time.
His commitment to be Grayson’s mentor and coach on anything Grayson believes in and wants to try.
His passion for teaching our kids the right way to do things, the honest way to do things, and how to put others first.
How he held Charlie for 4 hours straight when she was 6 weeks old, NPO, and waiting on her MRI at Children’s.
The way he talks about his son and daughter to strangers and acquaintances as if they are royalty.
His attention to detail. He remembers everything Grayson has barely mentioned that he wants for Christmas in six months, and what every cry of Charlie’s signifies.
The way he comes home from work and immerses himself straight into quality time with them, no matter how hard his day was or how tired he is.
His work ethic that is directly inspired by wanting our children to have the best life they can possibly have.
His fierce protective and nurturing nature that assures us all he’s always got our backs.
and finally…
The way he shows them how much he adores their mother.
I wasn’t sure Dads like mine existed anymore. He set the bar pretty darn high. I still don’t know what I did right to deserve a husband like Tyler, but my kids are some of the luckiest people on earth to have been blessed with a father like him. Happy Fathers Day to my Dad, my husband, and all the other Dads who deserve the title.

June 19, 2016 at 2:26 pmTo use a “Southernism”, Tyler was “brought up right”, and obviously has strong family values and a very admirable moral compass. Good Lord, you are so blessed to have this wonderful man as a husband and life adventurer, but then again, he has an extraordinary wife! Loved, loved, loved the pictures! Your children’s faces reflect the total love showered on them. Happy Father’s Day to Tyler. Happy Life to you all.
