In the past I’ve gotten comments on viral “mom body” posts like… “babies didn’t do that to her body”, or “this isn’t postpartum, she didn’t JUST have a baby.”⠀
⠀
And you know. It’s true.
This isn’t my body after having babies.
This is my body after…
Depression.
Anxiety.
Trauma.⠀
College.
Marriage.
Divorce.
Cross country moves.
Career changes.
A marathon.⠀
Eating disorders.⠀
Medications.
A pandemic.
Delicious meals with good friends….
Irreplaceable travel experiences….
AND growing, birthing and breastfeeding three babies.
⠀
So, yeah. This isn’t a “mom body”.
It’s much more. It carried me through three decades of the human experience.
Let’s stop qualifying perceived flaws. Imperfections aren’t more beautiful or acceptable because someone produced a child. There’s no moral hierarchy.
Each of our bodies have taken us to great heights regardless of whether we have or ever will carry a baby.
⠀
Your body is good and necessary and honorable and the least interesting thing about your existence.
