In some quiet time lately I can feel my *anticipation* of a feeling trying to drive the bus.

If you notice that too, remind yourself that you’re just here… in this moment… and in this moment you’re actually ok.

I share this every year on World Suicide Prevention Day.⠀

We know that suicide is far too common, but sometimes I think the well intended narrative get’s muddied. It blurs the reality of chronic suicidal ideation. ⠀
⠀
For many people, it’s not just a one time occurrence. It’s a state of mind you are prone to fall into when triggered. It may happen on and off forever. It’s not really about who went out of their way to be kind that day, or who smiled at you on the street, or how loved you knew you were or who checked on you. ⠀

What saved my life was self-awareness, honest vocalization of crisis to people close to me, relentless pursuit of mental health care through a Psychiatrist and Therapist, adjusting triggering parts of my lifestyle like sleep deprivation and overwhelm with my kids, and having a crisis plan (like removing things from the home that were in my ideations). ⠀

It wasn’t… someone who smiled at me in the grocery store. ⠀
⠀
Depression doesn’t care who says they want you to stay or who sends an “I love you” text. It’s unbearable pain and it erases all rational thought. Suicidal thoughts, expressions, and attempts must be treated seriously. ⠀
⠀
People who idealize leaving their reality by means of death need help- immediately and long term. ⠀
⠀
The highest risk of suicide is between 9 and 12 months postpartum. Maternal suicide is the leading cause of postpartum death in multiple developed countries, and possibly the US- however, our country does not report maternal suicide rates. It’s important to know these facts, but more important to understand that this is a preventable crisis. We can all bring our stories into the light to help reduce stigma and spread awareness.

I’m deep into the season of being outside as much as possible, especially for hikes! But as much as I love and look forward to this time of year... it also is summer: a season *full* of environmental migraine triggers for me. I hate how hard it is to stay caught up on healthcare needs without insurance in this country. (That’s a whole other post.)

It is something that I honestly overlooked in the past, but I am glad that it’s become standard for brands to be transparent with that accountability.

T-Mobile truly embraces diversity and mobilizes in support of the LGBTQ+ community. Beyond just showing up at the parades (like the Atlanta one I saw them march in) they are committed to supporting organizations that provide technology and essential resources to underserved communities, like @glsen and @humanrightscampaign.

Let me just say I’ve done a lot of local pop up exhibitions and this one was THE coolest. If you have a kid interested in dinosaurs or anyone interested in the Jurassic Park movies- the @jurassicworldexhibition in ATL at Pullman Yards is a MUST do this summer.
