Charcuterie boards are kind of my thing, so come with me to my closest grocery store, @Kroger, to get supplies including Beemster’s new Swiss cheese!

If you haven’t heard of @beemstercheese they are a farmer-owned cooperative in Holland that makes delicious, award-winning cheese. They recently launched their Swiss cheese which you can find at @kroger locations nationwide.

To celebrate this launch, Beemster is hosting a March Madness themed contest! To enter, you must post an Instagram Reel using the Beemster Swiss cheese and the hashtags #SwissItsGood and #BetterWithBeemster.

The top 4 posts based off total likes and comments will make it to the Final Four, where their post will be reposted to the @beemstercheese Instagram page. The winners will then be selected, in descending order, by which post from the @beemstercheese page receives the highest number of likes + comments.

Does anyone else feel like the year is actually JU

Does anyone else feel like the year is actually JUST NOW getting started? Like this week??

I think there is also an (actual) astrological explanation, but maybe I just never feel like a new beginning until the sun is coming out more. And it finally is. I digress…

So, I’m doing two things this week and I’m inviting you to join me.

There are a lot of hard and fast “rules” for love and relationships on this app.

This is your reminder that the journey is not usually linear. It’s not what you’ve seen portrayed in movies. And you never know what couples are dealing with behind the scenes of social media.

I’ve had to unlearn and relearn a lot in my 30s and how to be healthy in love has been a huge and difficult part.

Relational work is H A R D. But it can also be gratifying and uniquely intimate.

❤️ Normalize goals of self awareness and personal growth as perhaps the MOST important quality in a potential partner.

❤️ Normalize not navigating it alone. Therapists are gifts. (You wouldn’t expect to be an Olympic gymnast without a coach, would you?)

❤️ Normalize bringing in a professional BEFORE the wheels fall off. It doesn’t have to be a box you check or a last ditch effort.

Love can be flowers, gifts or candy… and it can also be a Valentines Day couples therapy appointment. 🫶

Before I was a mom they told me I’d be overwhelm

Before I was a mom they told me I’d be overwhelmed with love.

They told me I’d not remember my life before kids.

They told it would be unspeakable joy.

They told of bonds and victories and magic.

And while all those beautiful moments exist... motherhood is truthfully more messy than not.

Motherhood can really hurt.

But, I don’t recall anyone telling me about the mess or the hurt. I didn’t hear about the guilt, the pain, or the confusion. I wasn’t told about the large percentage of time I’d feel like a failure or like everyone in my house hated my guts.

Broadly speaking, surviving motherhood has come down to just doing the “next right thing”.

When I was running the NYC marathon and got to mile 18, it got so hard and overwhelming that my brain was scrambled. Everything felt impossible and everything in me shut down. I didn’t know if I would make it to the finish line. Hell, I didn’t know if I could make it another block.

All I could do in the moment I started to break was to focus and audibly repeat: “foot. road. foot. road.“

I couldn’t think ahead any further than that. I didn’t know how far I’d get but I knew that only concentrating on the next right thing… foot… road…. would be the only way I’d make it.

That experience resounds as a metaphor for motherhood.

I don’t have answers or advice or promises of happy endings. I can only tell you that this gig is brutal and I’m running alongside them, step by step, while I try to do the next right thing and celebrate even the smallest wins.

I guess I’m just here to say I know you’re in the same race. I see you. And I’m rooting for you.

The kids are gonna be ok.

Couple things.

1. This is the longest winter of my life. Am I insane? (I mean yes, I am.) But. Do y’all feel like it’s been a long and dark winter, especially in Atlanta? We have had so little sun in SO long. I’m trying to get outside as much as I can when I can, but my gosh it’s slim pickins for a decent weather day. Spring can’t come fast enough.

2. I’m back on the job market after almost 8 years as a self employed full time content creator and it’s scary?! My fingers are crossed that I’ll make the right connections to find the perfect fit. It’s time for a pivot and regardless of not having the experience in a formal setting, I just know I’ll be an asset to a team in this industry. But WOW the process is daunting. Every time I click “does not have a bachelors degree” or “self employed” I automatically want to feel inferior or less worthy. It’s been a real test of confidence and hope.

Anyway, Happy February. One day closer to warmth, sun, and hopefully a new job. ❤️

I ran out of my ADHD medication in the fall and mi

I ran out of my ADHD medication in the fall and missed an appointment to get a refill. Since it’s a “controlled substance”, the appointments are required. Unfortunately, my doctor’s next available for a follow up wasn’t until the end of January which was several weeks away.

Maybe you’ve noticed my inconsistency here, maybe you haven’t. But I have. And I have hated that it’s become that.

I’ve always been a very public advocate of destigmatizing mental health diagnoses and treatment. I’ve been on antidepressants for 10+ years and I was on ADHD medication for 2. When I couldn’t get my refill of ADHD meds I foolishly thought that wouldn’t be a big deal. I thought, like so many popular self-help tell us- that I “formed habits” during my time on meds that I could maintain. (I mean I made my bed and brushed my teeth every day for well over 21 days, surely it’s a habit now!)

I forgot.

Because of internalized stigma I didn’t know I even had. A stigma that validated my ADHD less than my mood disorder.

I forgot how much I struggled before I was properly diagnosed. Without treatment I have been quickly humbled.

I didn’t realize that even through all the advocacy and “self care” I still subconsciously thought I could be fine and good without those meds.

I forgot how lack of executive function would affect my self worth. I forgot how tasks would snowball so big they became insurmountable and how crushing that pressure was. I forgot that before meds I didn’t sleep well at night. I forgot about the mindless searches for dopamine from snacking to skin picking. I forgot how hard it was to meet deadlines or make phone calls.

I forgot.

I forgot that my untreated ADHD was one of the biggest contributors to my depression and anxiety until I was out of the medication I religiously took for two years.

My reminder was harsh and I won’t deprioritize all facets of my mental health again. Next week I’ll go for a med eval and refills and I’m counting down. I want to feel like myself again, and I’m reminding myself the way I’ve reminded you all for years-

It’s always darkest before dawn. Sunrise will come, sometimes it’s just a matter of surrendering to the light.

I think I maybe made time to read 5 books last year?

Anyway, one of my goals this year was to set a challenge for myself in the Goodreads app. I didn’t want to set anything too insane and set myself up to be disappointed so I aimed for 20 books in 2022 and officially I beat it by 1 book.

My partner, lots of my friends and surely many of you have read 10x this many books this year but I am so proud that I achieved my little goal. (I even ventured into fiction this year!)

Time to work on my 2023 wishlist!
