I know for a fact that I am not alone when it comes to having kids that are constantly hungry. If you are anything like me, you are tired of the constant snack requests and having to tell your kids what they can eat. Here’s a snippet of a typical afternoon at my house:
“Mom, can I have candy?”
“No. Please eat something that’s a better choice.”
“Ok. Can I have cookies?”
“No. Choose something else.”
… and it goes on and on and on….
Now that summer is upon us, I am determined to be ready for the snack battles. If anyone has been home with kids over the summer, you know that it’s the number one time of year for snack fights. In preparation for the season of having all kids home all the time and constantly asking for food… I had the idea of creating a snack chart to hang in the kitchen on the pantry door.
One favorite we always have stocked and on the approved snack list is Angie’s BOOMCHICKAPOP popcorn. It’s always been a favorite of mine, and now Grayson is hooked, too! Angie’s BOOMCHICKAPOP popcorn is an everyday, better-for-you snack with whole grain and made with real, simple ingredients – nothing fake! This is hugely important to me. I especially love this brand’s live out loud attitude, where fans are encouraged to “crush it” and accomplish the small victories in life.
Our favorite flavors are the Sea Salt Popcorn and the Sweet & Salty Kettle Corn. The products can be found at most grocery stores and have a few other flavors to choose from, as well.
The idea behind the chart is simply that when Grayson gets hungry for a snack, there is a list right there in front of his face. No arguments, no debates, no trying to remember what all we have stocked in the fridge or pantry. He literally doesn’t even have to ask me what he can have or propose choices that are an obvious “NO”. Basically, if it’s not on the list- he can’t have it.
How’s snack time at your house? Any snack-hacks I should know about?
