I get asked a lot how I named my blog and what the name means. My inner circle knows that it took weeks of frustration, brainstorming, and nearly tears. I went through a ton of ideas. That may sound silly, but I wanted it to really represent myself in a word/phrase. While this season of my life totally revolves around the mom life, I also didn’t want to restrict myself solely and permanently to writing about my kids, so I opted out of a kitschy “mommy blogger” title. That said, my identity as a blogger (and human) is largely influenced by motherhood. I needed a title that signified motherhood to ME, but wasn’t necessarily obvious to every reader. I knew wanted this to be a lifestyle blog. Even though that’s a broad niche, the content won’t always be limited to parenting and babies.
If you know me, you also know that I love ampersands and wanted to incorporate one in the name as well. Like, _____ & _____. Another idea I liked were two words that were opposite each other. I’m a Gemini with a wide array of views and opinions and they often contradict each other. That’s another big part of my personality, so I had also toyed with phrases that reflected opposites.
So. One night, when I was tired of thinking about it and on the verge of falling asleep…Eureka! I thought of the perfect name for my blog. Twelve & Six.
When my children were born, my world changed immensely. Both times. Nothing in my existence will ever impact my life like those two moments, on a large and small scale.
Grayson was born at 12:28 pm.
Charlie was born at 6:24 pm.
Sometime later, I realized that “12” and “6” are also opposites on a clock (win!). I incorporated my beloved ampersand into my logo, and voila. Twelve & Six was born.
