You’ve probably heard of the Himalayan Salt Lamps. Having one in your home has many awesome benefits including removing negative ions from the air and easing respiratory symptoms by cleaning the air. Here is a great article that lists benefits and explains how it works. I have been wanting to add one to my home, but unsure about the visual aesthetic of a giant glowing pink rock with my decor (which is currently vintage/industrial/rustic).
Good news! You can have a Himalayan Salt Lamp that blends into your decor and is more economical than buying a lamp. Here’s how.
Bags of the salt rocks are available on Amazon. A two pound bag is here for $14.98! Next, you will need an accessory bulb on a cord with a switch. Again, you can prime it for $8.98 for TWO!
Next, you need a metal basket of sorts. There are lots of options here depending on how much salt you are using. I have seen them in containers in many different sizes. Cute little wire baskets are the cheapest and easiest to find at places like Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Home Goods. I happened to already have a wire basket I wasn’t using.
Layer the bottom of the basket with a few rocks (just so the bulb won’t be directly against a wooden surface) and then position your bulb in the center and kind of stack rocks all around and on top of it (carefully).
Voila! You made a lamp. Here is mine. (This size used about 1.5 pounds of rocks. They recommend this size for a small room, or doing a couple of these in a larger room like a den or living area.)
