HER BODY CAN

After a few years of advocating in the body positive space, I felt like there needed to be a shift in focus. In 2018, I began leaning in more to “body neutrality”. Body neutrality, for me, was acknowledging that my body is good and capable and miraculous and no matter who you are or what path I’m on- has gotten me through a lot. Above all, no matter what it looks like, my body (and yours) holds a beautiful and powerful person. It carries a soul through it’s life journey and what we look like or how big or small we are is completely irrelevant.⠀

Knowing that at the end of the day, even if I am struggling to love it, my body’s appearance isn’t something you owe to anyone else, is being body neutral. It’s also why I started the Her Body Can movement on Instagram. I originally encouraged women to post a photo using that hashtag and list all the incredible things their body has done to be featured on the @herbodycan feed. Since then, the movement has only continued to gain traction and start more conversations.

Introducing: #HerBodyCan 💪🏻 ⠀ The response to my post yesterday was so big and so positive that I was inspired to create a hashtag for us to ALL join in on. ⠀ ⠀ I’m challenging you to post a photo of your body (show as much or as little skin as you want!) with the hashtag: #HerBodyCan – and a list of things your body has carried you through. ⠀ ⠀ Maybe it’s one thing, maybe it’s 10. Maybe it’s surviving an illness, maybe it’s running a marathon. Maybe it’s simply existing and holding a beautiful soul. Whatever it is, it’s amazing and worth celebrating, so let’s do it together. Make sure to tag me so I can share to stories.⠀ ⠀ Here’s mine:⠀ ⠀ #HerBodyCan⠀ ⠀ Survive trauma.⠀ Grow humans.⠀ Hold babies.⠀ Show up as a friend.⠀ Fight for change.⠀ ⠀ What can yours do? In 2020 I proudly released my first children’s book: “Her Body Can” which became an immediate bestseller. Her Body Can is a book of poetic self-love and body positivity declarations for all young girls. Its aim is to encourage our young girls to create a reality for themselves in which they love themselves and their bodies for exactly who and what they are. The very first book of its kind, written for girls 1 to 101, this book intends to teach all young girls their bodies can do anything.
