What We Can Control When It Feels Like We Have None

What We Can

This post was sponsored by Grace Mabel. All opinions are my own.

In a world that often feels like it’s spinning down the drain, it’s easy to feel helpless. I find myself becoming so desperate to make a difference, be the change, and pray for resolution. At the end of the day, I’m just one person. I can’t save the world.

I have a strong history of anxiety. I have been having panic attacks for 20 years.  My tendency is to fear the worst and let my thoughts spiral out of control. The thought of the unknown or of things I could not control was my trigger. Over the years, and with the help of some cognitive therapy, I learned how to reign in my thoughts and ground myself. While we need an awareness of the bigger picture, sometimes for sanity’s sake, we need to retreat to our bubble. One of the mantras I repeat to myself is “Control your controllables.” (Controllables isn’t an actual word, I know.) In other words, stay focused on what you CAN control.

I can’t control natural disasters. I can’t control global pandemics. I can’t control war. I can’t control ISIS. I can’t control our options for President.

Here’s what I can control. I can control my home. I can control what we eat, what we do for fun, how we learn, how much we enjoy each other, and what I put on my children’s bodies.

Grace Mabel is a mom owned business (I love it already!) that is committed to making the safest possible products for our little ones. Their products never contain formaldehyde, propylene glycol, phthalates, mineral oil, parabens, dyes or sulfates. Grace Mabel truly believes that if we go back to basics and stop putting toxic chemicals on and in our children’s bodies, that we could see a decline in illness and disability. I absolutely love what the company stands for and admire this mama’s drive to help us all keep our kids healthy and happy. All of the products smell absolutely divine, but I think my favorite is the cuddle rub. It has a sweet minty fragrance. The lavender lotion bar is also to die for!

At the end of the day, so much is out of our control. We can all be the best we can with the best we have. Sometimes, it’s all I can hold on to. Let’s focus on these little faces and what our primary purpose is. Sometimes, saving the world starts in our own bathtubs.
