Add These Things To Your Spring Cleaning List

This post was sponsored by Clorox. All opinions are mine.

Welcome to one of my favorite times of the year: January. I have always loved the feeling I get in January, after the Christmas decorations are put away and we get to start with a blank slate. This is the time of year that I purge, organize, and most importantly- CLEAN. Not only do I clean, but I “Spring Clean”. To me, that just means doing all the things I do less frequently. Admittedly, cleaning isn’t my favorite- but a clean house IS.

The list of what to do for a major deep clean and refresh could be endless, but I wanted to share a few things that I add on to the usual tasks. Obviously, these things only need to be done every several months or so (depending on preference).

Clean inside of fireplace.

You probably have used your fireplace recently and possibly haven’t cleaned it since last year. This is a great time to clean it out.

Air filter and ducts.

While you should be changing the air filter every month or so, it’s a great time to complete that task and consider hiring someone to do a duct cleaning. What we are breathing inside our house is important.

Clean less used floors (like inside closets and garage).

We clean floors constantly around here, but I tend to overlook floors like the ones inside closets, under certain furniture, and in the garage (yuck). Pine Sol and a good ‘ole mop and bucket are all you need to catch up and make sure this is complete (in addition to your regular floor cleaning). I can always count on Pine Sol to do the trick on my floors, y’all. Not to mention, the fresh scent reminds me of helping my grandmother clean when I was a kid. Ahh, nostalgia. Did I mention it kills 99% of germs?!

Sanitize toys.

Aside from when someone poops in the bathtub (I wish I was kidding), the other good time to catch up on toy sanitizing is NOW! I use Clorox Regular Concentrated Liquid Bleach for this task. The ratio for disinfecting is 1/2 a cup of bleach per gallon of water. Let plastic toys soak for ten minutes, then rinse and dry. Again, this kills 99.9% of germs. Keep Clorox Bleach on hand to get the toughest stains out of your laundry, too!

Don’t neglect your walls, especially if you have kids. If you really take time and look around, you might realize more fingers and snacks have been on your walls than you probably realize. Periodically, it’s great to go around and wipe them down.

Steam clean upholstery.

We just bought a small upholstery cleaner and it’s life changing! Even upholstery we *thought* was clean, wasn’t! Go around the house and give your upholstered furniture a bath. Oh, and maybe hit your car seats while you’re at it.

Again, I think you could probably add 200 things to an annual cleaning list, but I wanted to share a few you may not have thought of. Don’t forget to grab Pine Sol and Clorox Bleach at Home Depot. It’s super easy to find in-store!

Happy New Year, and Happy Cleaning!
