One of the craziest parts about parenting is that we can’t predict what phase is coming next. As much as we think we have it all figured out, we don’t. Our kids evolve and change and develop new characteristics daily. I’m really hoping some other boy moms can relate to me, here. For Grayson, six years old came with new heights of energy and a significantly decreased attention span. I didn’t see that coming. I’m not naive to how little boys can be, but up until then, he had a good amount of focus. These days, I sometimes wonder if this is normal or if I need to have him evaluated! He is constantly fidgety and he doesn’t focus on something for long. This can be benign, but sometimes it’s an issue at school or in sports (but that’s another topic for another day).
Other popular blocks that other little boys love just aren’t interesting to Grayson. I think he gets bored and disinterested too quickly to enjoy the process. I had been trying to find something he could work on with his hands that held his interest. It’s so important for kids to have something that isn’t a tablet to explore their creativity and tactile skills. When I found Bunchems, I knew I found the thing he would love. I was so right! Before playing, make sure long hair is pulled back and try to play with Bunchems on hard surfaces and not near fibers like carpet.
